At a recent event, I found myself starting with the words "The reason I'm here, and the reason that I got into politics, is because I want to live in a world that works".
Don't we all, you might say. I hope so, although for the most part, we generally want to live in a 'world that works ... for me' or a 'world that works ... for me and my family'.
When I said that, I was talking about something a little broader, a world that works for everyone, where no one is left out.
What I realise here is that it's all too easy to talk the talk, and perhaps for that talk to vary to fit the audience. If the challenge and the commitment is real, then the challenge for me becomes not to sound good when talking at some event, nor to look good in what I do, but to translate that talk into something real, out there in other people's lives.
This blog is here to help accomplish that: to keep my talk consistent and disciplined; to keep my actions true to those words; and most importantly to allow others to engage in the areas where I'm working for A World That Works.
